Pelvic Floor Health

At Pembrokeshire Medical Group, we provide thorough pelvic floor health assessments to identify issues affecting bladder, bowel, and sexual function. Our personalised management plans may include tailored advice, lifestyle changes, and pessary fitting when appropriate. We are committed to supporting your pelvic wellbeing with compassionate care and evidence-based treatments to improve quality of life.

Pelvic floor assessment consultations

At a pelvic floor assessment consultation, you’ll gain a clear understanding of how your pelvic muscles are functioning and any factors contributing to symptoms like incontinence, pelvic pain, or prolapse. The consultation includes a personalised evaluation, expert advice on exercises and lifestyle adjustments, and discussion of treatment options such as pessary fitting or referral to specialist therapies. This helps you take proactive steps to improve pelvic health, reduce symptoms, and enhance your overall quality of life.

Pessary Fitting

Pessary fitting is a non-surgical option to support pelvic organs and help manage symptoms of pelvic organ prolapse or urinary incontinence. Before fitting, you will need to attend an initial pelvic assessment where we will evaluate your individual anatomy and lifestyle, as well as consider the use of vaginal oestrogen prior to fitting to ensure the most comfortable and effective fit. This assessment helps us select the most appropriate pessary for you. Once the right type is chosen, a follow-up appointment can be arranged for the fitting at a cost of £125, plus the cost of the pessary device, which ranges from £10 to £100. We also recommend a follow-up review about two weeks after fitting to assess comfort and fit, which costs £75. This personalised approach aims to improve pelvic support, reduce symptoms, and enhance your daily comfort.
